O.K., I tried to be good, but I can't contain it any longer.

After being in touch with SE a few times, it's obvious they're in "R&D" mode--and to me it sounded like they were in R&D in a "big" way.

Obviously they weren't ready to unleash any new tidbits at the NAMM show, or we would have heard about it.

So, at the risk of subjecting myself to men in dark suits and sunglasses knocking at my door, anybody have any rumors (or vastly wild conjecture) on what Emmett may be dreaming up?

Wild ideas...how about...

1. quarter turn fastener on the back side of the block through the body so the pickups be swapped without tools

cheaper, Korean made sticks, to be available to the masses at a lower introductory price, so there's absolutely no reason to buy megatars?

An even lower model, named Deep Stick.

At one point I was tempted to get some of those ultra low strings from conklin/SIT and toss them on the stick, but I forget what stopped me. It was probably a voice in my head that sounded too much like my mother that said "Why can't you just leave it the way the guy made it? He's made 5 thousand of them by now, he probably knows a thing or two."

What would I like to see...?
A 12-string NS with the non-tapered neck of the Grand Stick.

I to would love to see a 12 stick NS.

I was thinking about an alto NS/Stick.

8 strings, shorter scale length ~27"-30",
narrower guitar string spacing
tuned up a fourth from low E to high Eb (covers bass and guitar ranges)

just like a short scale NS stick. It would be like the NS stick for guitarists (as apposed to the current design which has its root s in bass, and i find reaching chords across 8 strings a real stretch).

I imagine a lot of guitarists would be interested in one also...

You read my mind on that one . I always wanted to see a short scale version of the SB8. I like the idea of a single sequence of strings; starting with the low string and going up in straight fourths from there. Maybe one full octave up from standard SB8 tuning? Sweetness Offer that baby in graphite too! The SG8

Regarding the NS ...

I've never owned one but the first time I tried one tuned in straight fourths, it really felt kind of foreign compared to my Stick. Then a year or so later I took on the assignment of driving down to Nashville and running the SE booth at the Summer NAMM show with Greg. Emmett shipped my a bunch of instruments and a couple of them were NS Sticks. One used one of the "guitar" tunings with the odd major 3rd and, being an ex-guitarist, the lightbulbs went on immediately.

Then on to the NAMM show and I couldn't help but notice how many fingerstyle guitar guys really seemed to take a shine to the instrument. I never really felt like we needed a shorter scale version though.

Well there already is a 10 string Grand, so how about the equivalent in a 12 string? Not sure what you would call it but it would be a 12 string grand with the string to string spacing of of a 10 (retain the string to string feel of a 10 by having a proportionally wider grand fingerboard).
