Go to the FAQ page on this site

heres a link

It says that Emmett uses Watco Danish Oil. I would wait for an updated response from him though. This may have been posted a while ago.

I looked up the danish oil, it seems to be a stain. I wouldn't use it until Emmett chimes in.

Watco Danish Oil can be found at almost any hardware store. It comes in varying shades of stain, from natural to medium and dark walnut. One little can that only costs a few bucks will last you forever.

I re-finished my old zebrawood Grand twice with it. Emmett told me the grades of sandpaper to use, but i can't seem to remember them now.

It works beautifully and you get a new looking (and smelling) Stick!

For what it's worth, I've had tremendous luck using orange oil and steel wool. I know! You saw the words steel wool and made the same face as I did the first time someone told me the same thing.

I picked this tip up from a local guitar shop that used to use it to clean up used instruments and make them look new before putting them out for sale. You go to a shop that sells furniture finishing material (I think most larger hardware stores will fit the bill) and get the finest grade steel wool you can find. It's the stuff furniture makers use to put a polish on the wood. I think it's something like #0000 grade but you'll want to double check. I dab some orange oil on the steel wool and polish. Use paper towels to thoroughly wipe the area where you've cleaned. Let your instrument sit and thoroughly dry and then re-string.

I do this every couple of years or so and have done it several times on three Sticks and several guitars (one of which I thought was beyond hope and ended up looking like new).

I have been using Dunlop 65 Guitar polish. Should I be using something else?
