Roman Giza - Major 3rds Tuning
I've been meaning to post this, but it keeps slipping my mind.
I recently returned from Spain. While in Madrid, we went to go visit Museo del Prado. As we were walking in, I could've sworn I heard a Stick. I looked around and saw a Stickist busking!!!!!!! I swear God put him there.
So past the initial shock, I went to talk to him and told him I was a Stickist. It was difficult because Roman Giza is from Poland, and speaks Polish, Spanish, and very little English. I speak really awful Spanish, and have a friend that speaks a little bit better Spanish, so we had a fun Spanglish conversation. He let me try his Stick. It was an old one; an Ironwood I believe. The weirdest thing was that as soon as I strapped it on, I realized that it was tuned really wacky. He said it was tuned in straight across Major thirds. It was uncrossed, and all Major thirds. I had no idea how to play it so I felt like a total idiot, but it was still awesome to meet another Stickist in another country. He had an amazing version of "Flight of the Bumblebee", "Take Five", and a cool swung version of "Birdland."
So I guess my question is, has anyone met this guy? Also, does anyone have any experience with Major thirds tuning? The more I think about it, the more intuitive it seems. All the chord patterns seem to be really close together, but I really like my crossed 5ths/4ths.

Re: Roman Giza - Major 3rds Tuning
I emailed back and forth a couple of years ago with a Stick player who tuned in 3rds (can't recall his name). I think it was here on Stickist.com but on the old forum. I had these pages Bookmarked: http://lilytears.com/arts/music/guitar/ ... o/3rds.htmhttp://v2p0.m3guitar.com/http://www.ralphpatt.com/Tune.htmlKris

Just remembered the discussion I was referring to, not on this forum, but if it's okay to post, it was here, and Gary Openhill was the guy I spoke with at length on M3 tuning: http://www.tappistry.org/forum/showthre ... ght=thirdsKris

Hi Kris, You must be "Drinkwater"? If so did you ever try those guitar tuning experiments. I am just interested because I have an old acoustic that I want to invert the strings and up until now tune in fourths or fiths I am not sure but the idea would be that it would become half of a Stick or the bass side. Any thoughts?

That's Tom Drinkwater, not me. Try PM'ing him at that site, he's a good guy to talk with.
