Thanks for the details, Emmett! Great out-of-the-box engineering :-)

Emmett, you did it again.

This is gorgeous and I can't wait to lay my hands one the "AluStick" (as I already nicknamed it).

The bolt-on headstock helps in that regard.

Any chance to have a full aluminium version (from tail to headstock)?

All the best from Switzerland.

Earthgene addressed that question in his original post:

"2. The prototype had a bolt on headstock, but the finished product will have a headstock that die-cut just like the body. I expect it will be made from a separate piece and then bolted to the body"

Thanks Randy, I didn't understand the "die-cut" thing - I'm french speaking and some english words are still alien to me ;-)

I didn't get that either but from the context my guess is that it means it is cut out by a machine according to some pattern or machine programming?

Die-cut or die cast?
I guess the headstock is the part that allows for higher dimensional tolerances, so I can be cheaply made via mold casting; much more cheaper than CNC.

Cheers, Daniel.

PS: I still have 2 questions:
- The hard wood sticks will still be produced?
- Will there be a 12 string version of the Railboard?

probably the basic shape was a die-CAST mold and then final dressing (the fret rails & playing surface) are then machine cut...

Randy, I was talking only of the headstock (following the posts from Olivier & Per) ;)
For the rest of the instrument I agree with what you say, it won't make sense to start just out of a block of aluminum; use precision only where needed.

Daniel.

yeah - I would imagine the entire thing will eventually be made out of one solid piece or else some of the benefit seems lost.

Maybe that's the difference with the other various composite materials he's used in the past - the aluminum can be made to incorporate the frets...none of the others can.

Pretty interesting approach - make the whole thing out of one material, super harden/anodize the frets and fret board, then add the other various components.

No fretting - just some truss rod adjusts & intonation work.
