Hey Rob. From what I could tell during the demo that Emmett gave, one knob controlled volume, one controlled the four way eq toggle and the last was a frequency control.

I am really not qualified to explain how it worked, but it sound as if you were pedaling on a cry-baby although the Q range was not that wide. I could have been paying more attention during this bit of the lecture, and should have been, but from what I recall, it's more or less a variation on a frequency control that is smooth as opposed to the 4 toggle of the PASV-4.

Thanks for the good word Bsharp - let me know when you're ready to take orders on that dark blue model that you brought to class, it is tight!

This is extemely interesting! As always with Emmet, pure genius at work.
I own two basses with an aluminum body: one would think that the sound should be hard and metallic, but the opposite is true. The sound is warm and round, with loads of sustain.
Aluminum is also extremly durable and very eco-friendly, in that it is easily recyclable.

Can't wait for a Grand model, I'll make sure I get one of the first ones :D

P.S. more photos please!!!

Re: Your comments about the sound of aluminum basses: That's consistent with the kind of sound that drummers have been getting out of aluminum snare drums for a long time. Aluminum (and aluminum alloy, like the "Ludalloy" used to make Ludwig Supra-phonic snare drums) snares tend to sound much less metallic and harsh than a plain steel drum. That's because it's a relatively soft metal by comparison, and so the warmer tone follows.
I wonder what'll happen once the frets start to wear down over time? How would that be addressed?
What a fascinating idea, though!

E.C.'s initial post answers the fret question. sounds like an eloquent solution to any issues. i can't wait. :)

Oops, missed it...this thread has 7 pages (so far) and I saw the first 2 and the last 2, and hadn't read the middle pages yet. Thanks for the direction!
I need to show this to my brother; he's an amateur bassist, but in his daily life is a design engineer, and has been working with computer design since the earlier days of CAD/CAM. He'll be fascinated!

Police warrant to search your house to find the listening devices. Hehehe.

I may have missed it in this long thread, but from the looks of it there is no longer a bevel on the side of the board. I know myself, I depend heavily on that bevel to give me a good position to use hand and arm motion to activate notes. A board this thin seems like it would limit that motion, and could be a hindrance to fast playing, especially those who follow Gregs Open Hands techniques.

other than that potential liability, I think the instrument is a great idea.

not sure why, but my first instinct was to view no bevel as a potential advantage rather than a potential obstacle. i can see your point though.

And I could be totally wrong on this as well. I am however very interested to hear Greg's input on the instrument when he gets his hands on it.
