Re: Your comments about the sound of aluminum basses: That's consistent with the kind of sound that drummers have been getting out of aluminum snare drums for a long time. Aluminum (and aluminum alloy, like the "Ludalloy" used to make Ludwig Supra-phonic snare drums) snares tend to sound much less metallic and harsh than a plain steel drum. That's because it's a relatively soft metal by comparison, and so the warmer tone follows.
I wonder what'll happen once the frets start to wear down over time? How would that be addressed?
