Life sometimes gets crazy, and I happen to own and run a business that gets REALLY busy in the summer. I guess I shouldn't wonder too much, then, that I had practically zero chance and/or drive and/or leftover energy to work on my Stick at all for the past couple of months.
My wife threw me a 45th birthday party last week, and we had a slew of people over for the first time since January. A couple of those people are musicians, one of them being my dear college friend and VERY good guitarist Scott Hughes. Scott hung around long enough to ask if he could see the Stick; he'd never seen one up close and personal.
Soon enough other family members (many of whom are also musicians and haven't seen it at all except for a few photos) came around, and the moment turned into a bit of a "Basic Intro to Stick" class. Thus was I put up in front of friends and family with the instrument far ahead of my own timid timetable.
I totally sucked, of course. But it DID giver me a bit of a push to make sure I didn't let the thing mothball for too long. And this weekend my wife made me a deal: if she exercises every night (which is her goal), I will practice every night.
Last night was my first time back at it seriously. After a little truss rod tweak and a short amount of time tuning (amazing how this thing holds its tune so well), I was doing some basic mechanical movements with it. As I was working, I was able to remember why I wanted the thing in the first place, and so I feel inspired once again.
Greg, I still plan on getting a lesson from you. I just want to spend a little time reacquainting myself with the Stick before I make a complete fool out of myself in front of you.
