Post Circle K Strings
Is there anyone who have used other strings than original strings on the Stick? I've been looking at Circle K Strings a lot to get strings for my basses; they have a very smart way of showcase their products. I'll attach some links...

I know there is no specific Stick set, but have anyone tested their strings? Is it possible to use other than original strings?

Most of us at one time or the other "tried" other strings, and it just does not work all that well. The Strings SE sells are designed and made with the Stick in mind… AND we are supporting SE as well :ugeek:

I haven't used circle k but agree they look good. It would be interesting to feel balanced guage sets for stick. I've had regular bass strings on my stick and was completely happy but exposed core work best and obviously guitar strings are too short of the shelf. I just did it because it takes a while to ship from the usa. Others people's opinions will differ from mine on strings though. Any there would have to be some perceived benefit over stick strings to justify the effort.

There's some useful info to keep in mind about Stick strings on this thread:
http://www.stickist.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6679
There WAS one time, when I got my first Stick (a 1983 Ironwood, so the scale was shorter) delivered, that I found that the first string had broken in the case during shipping. As it wasn't a wound string (.008), I was able to simply go to the local shop and buy an .008 string and it worked well enough. (The first string is one of the two shortest strings, and again, as my Stick has the old, shorter scale, it worked. It might not work on more recent/longer-scale instruments.)
Hope it helps.

I've heard good things, but I've never tried them. THat said, You might want to email them and ask about the length of their unwound strings and whatnot -- make sure they can reach the headstock on the stick.

The only issue I've ever had with other strings is that the headstock is too long for certain string positions. Ernie Ball strings are far too short for anything between strings 3-7. They cut off the unwound portion of the strings. Daddarios fit on the older 34" scale instruments (with no X fret), but are too short for 36" scale instruments or railboards.

I'm all about supporting SE, but sometimes you want to experiment before dedicating a lot of money to a proper strings set, and sometimes you want to be able to get something locally, just in case something happens and you've got a show or something.

Yes. I was curious about what strings with a round core would add to my SG-12. But the round core didn't do as much for tapping as on my regular plucked and picked guitars. I typically buy a .009 set plus one extra thin (plain) G string of .015 and this is perfect for the melody side. But matching up a set for the 5ths tuned bass side in a regular music store just eats up too much of my time, so I prefer to use the D'addario sets that SE puts together.

Well, it is good a newbie pops in from time to time and ask Those Questions. I have to ask a LOT so I don't find myself standing with my pants down when push comes to shove. If I can learn from others' experiences and mistakes first, it will be cheaper for me... ;)
