Cool design!!
I love the headless concept on bass guitar designs (the balance of my Steinberger Synapse is awesome), but on the Stick I like the tuners on the classic location, because balance is no issue, and bridge tuners are less accessable, unless you would use tuners like the ones on the new Steinberger Radius basses (knobs on these basses are parallel to the pickup control knobs).
Just my 2 cents :-)

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. I will be revising the tuning machines next. They present quite a challenge with the tight string spacing. Working on this project gives me a whole new appreciation for a lot of luthiers out there.

I will look at designing some sort of protection for the tuners.

@skydiver thanks. The initial concept uses a mono pickup to match my playing style. I suppose it could be made stereo quite easily. The controls and are in the works.

@randy believe it or not, my calculations and tests show that the truss rod is not necessary with the right material and cross-section. As for truss alternative, there was someone playing with a two layer neck (http://tbeamguitar.blogspot.com/)

@Randomlydunn I am testing a new instrument mount that will work across several applications. More to come...

hmm, think you will need one regardless, so you can adjust the action correctly, no?

Just a thought...

I love that. The symmetry, the lack of anything sticking out. The only previous suggestions that I agree with is that you consider protecting those tuners.

Looks like a Stick minus a headstock... cool render.

What I'd most like to see is a Piezo option with individual (internal) string volumes/ trim pots. Then an external master volume for each side and/or a mono master.

One thing that I think all of the sticks suffer from is that the range on both sides is such that getting even volumes is difficult. You can raise and lower one side of a pick up. this kind of works but is not optimal. I'd like to see the balance be much more even across the range of each side.

Of course the piezo would also lend itself easily to midi with out the inelegant GK wart approach as well.

Others have suggested putting a bumper on the end to protect the tuners. I would suggest putting the tuner on the BACK. As a reference I would suggest having a look at Ritter's rear tuning bridge. This makes for a very clean look. Solves the issues of protecting the tuners and also pushes the tuners closer to saddles making it easier to tune.

I am working on a headless 10 string concept as a personal side project. It has an aluminum fretboard, veneer inlays, modified Lace pickups, and integrated linear tuning machines. Any thoughts or input would be greatly appreciated.

(NOTE: This is for a personal exploration and not a production concept.)

It was quite an old post. Wonder if this project had been completed....?

I'm curious too as to if this was ever made.
I love how it has no controls - or appears to have no controls.

Sometimes it's nice when the instrument makes the choice for you, the way an acoustic instrument does.

*I hope the string spacing is equal throughout, that's my only complaint with the Railboard - the space that runs up the center between the melody and bass sides...
