Post What's That Transparent Plastic Bead On My R-Block?
There's a little transparent plastic bead on the front of my Railboard R-Block near the cable input. It looks like maybe it's a little power-on indicator or something. It doesn't seem to do anything at all.

What IS it? :?:

Thanks!

Indicates phantom power.

There is a good write up of it here. The R-block is very versatile in that it is both an active and a passive pickup, depending on the availability of phantom power.

Dave, let's you and me cross the street and get our soup some place else! :D

Jonathan, one of these days, get a small mixer with phantom power, and run your Railboard through it. You will mess your pants with joy, I promise you.

While we're exploring this messy subject, what's worse than finding a fly in your soup?

Finding a half a fly. (Told to me as a kid by my Mom, who was raised in sophisticated Chicago during the '20s.)

Greg Howard demonstrated this in his video about the R-Block:

Here, in the province of Québec, we have a lot of apple trees and the joke was...what is worst than finding a worm in a apple? ...finding half of it...

blackbee, I was saying that because the sound of the R-Block pickup when run through a phantom power source is just so damned good.

Edit: I was responding to a post which no longer seems to be there...
