OK, so I saw Greg mention a book he was reading and I thought it would be great to have a reading thread.

I would recommend to keep politics out of this thread as much as possible.

So what are YOU reading, fiction, non-fiction, science fiction, biography?

I read a bit of everything I'm a big Medieval history buff so historical fiction set in those times are
my guilty pleasure, I just finished "Agincourt" by Bernard Cornwell and I'm starting his "archer's tale" now, with some Sherlock Holmes short stories in between sagas.

So any good historical fiction to recommend to me?..........

and what is everyone else reading?

Brett
Hi Brett,

It's sort of fiction, and includes lots of hacking, as well as other bits of brutality, so I assmue you've read Barbara Tuchman's "A Distant Mirror". If not, totally recommended...

Hi guys.

Been a while.

I'm currently reading this http://yanko.lib.ru/books/bio/miles.htm

Many of us have grown up with Miles' music and influence, I found this very enlightening and much like having Miles sit down and talk to ya.

Speaking of Miles Davis, I very much enjoyed reading "Miles Beyond", which is focused on Miles' electric period. If you enjoy his music from the seventies as much as I do, I can very much recommend the book.

Oh, and while I'm at it, I would like to recommend another book:
"Abbey Road to Ziggy Stardust" by Ken Scott.
Ken Scott is a recording engineer and producer who worked with the Beatles, David Bowie, the Mahavishnu Orchestra and many other famous bands and musicians. In the book, he shares his memories of these experiences. Very interesting and fun to read.

Just finished the book after watching The Borgia's series on HBO

The Family is a 2001 novel by Mario Puzo.

The novel is about Pope Alexander VI and his family. Puzo spent over twenty years working on the book off and on, while he wrote others. It was finished by his longtime girlfriend, Carol Gino. Effectively his last novel.

Zero History, by William Gibson. Part 3 of his latest trilogy; I had to re-read parts 1 and 2 because it's been a loooong time. Funny how Pattern Recognition predates YouTube and Spook Country predates the iPhone (and AR apps in iOS and Android).

And I have a rather long list of pending reads... I want to re-read Daemon by Daniel Suarez, to remember where the story ended so I can start its sequel "Freedom".

But the one I open most often now is Stick Book Vol. 1; I'm just getting to know all the bass chords in Chapter 3. Really interesting stuff; I love music theory and since I'm working on developing a new programming language right now, I often feel like there are many connections between all this stuff (of course, the underlying math; key to the universe, etc).

+1 on Gibson's Zero History - he's a fantastic prose artist and plotter, and this last trilogy is fantastic.

Sad to see about Gore Vidal's recent passing. Great writer. The Rabbit books and his historical fiction, particularly Burr and Creation have always been among my favorites.
