Hello. I am looking into acquiring this incredible instrument. Forgive me, but I'm embarrassed to say that I just discovered this instrument. I am so excited about it because it solves all of my wishes. Here is where I have been and where I plan to go.

Where I've been:
Private banjo lessons 1973-1974. Man, I was a youngling.
Private drumset lessons from 1978-1981.
Guitar lessons senior year in highschool.
I've played drums as my main instrument ever since.
Did some drumset session work early 80s.
Have continued to jam with buds twice a week for decades now.
I've been sitting in as part time bassist for my jam buds.

Where I want to go:
I want to play both guitar and bass so I can cover the rhythm and melodic range. There is so much more to music than the drumset itself.
Coordinating jams between 5 people is difficult. So, I need a way to be that one-man-band now that I can cover drums and can quickly pick up an instrument and learn it.
I can read/write drum music, so melodic notation is very easy for me to read....once I understand scales and chords - which I suck at.
The stick will be able to give me all of what I want.
I can apply my strong rhythm and percussive skills to maximize this wonderful instrument.

I'm so excited about this I can't stand it. I feel like I have found the holy grail of instruments. I'm budgeting right now for the standard 10 string model. Thank you. Thank you for this wonderful resource.

DEA,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Sticking! I know quite well that feeling of "where the heck has this instrument been these last several decades?" It's not like I wasn't paying attention, either, but I'd never heard or seen of a "Chapman Stick" until last August.

You're at the right place too. The Stickist forum rocks! There's some really smart and helpful people around here, and lots of good teachers if you want lessons, that do Skype video lessons at times convenient for the two of you.

Best of luck!

Thank you so much! I've been ready for a change for years now, but simply wasn't happy with the status quo. I wanted something different...something greater than the typical. I was getting frustrated until I stumbled onto the Chapman Stick. I was immediately intrigued and began reading about it. I realized quickly, this was what I wanted to carry me through the next musical phase in my life.

In a few weeks, I'll be picking up a Nickel RailBoard and my new musical life will begin. I'm so excited!!!!

Hello dea,

...but in your long story... forget the word quick...

....10string is perfect, you can do all you want with 10strings....
