Hey folks

I figured I should do a quick introduction and stop lurking before asking questions.

My name is Mark, and I'm a voice coach based in Nottingham in the UK. I first came across the Stick whilst at school around 2001/2002 - Mr Greg Howard's excellent demos sold me on it! Ever since then I've had a desire to get one, and an increasing fixation over the last 6 months or so has led me to finally put in the order for a railboard earlier this week. Now for the inevitable wait!

I came from a guitar and bass background, but now spend 5-10 hours a day in front of a piano teaching voice... hence the Chapman stick is even MORE of a relevant instrument for me to explore than it was before, given the natural overlap between all of these instruments.

Look forward to interacting with all of you in the future!

Mark

Welcome to this forum. Just the fact that you touch the piano so many hours a day will help you on the stick. And congratulations for your Railboard. There is a tradition here when someone buy a new stick...we want to see pictures...lol...good day.

Thanks guys! I am really looking forward to it. I’ve opted for the recommended raised matched reciprocal tuning, but have no idea where I will end up... probably best to stay with that tuning for a while and get comfy with the instrument first.

While my earliest years of music (and initial interest in the Chapman stick) were far more bombastic in nature, I'm far more into simple accompaniment and rhythm playing than anything else these days - just the nature of being a vocalist/voice coach, it's an inevitability. I'm interested to see what the Chapman stick can do for me in this regard.

Don't worry Alain "pics or it doesn't exist" is DEFINITELY a universal rule for gear!

Congratulations, Mark! I don't have a Railboard myself... yet, but as soon as aluminum SG-12s come along it will top my "must-by list" :-)

I was tempted by an SG12 for the alleged piano tunings. What made you (and keeps you) sticking with the SG12 over a normal stick?

- The homogeneous "one instrument" sound (rather than the "bass + guitar" sound, which is of cause also cool, but not as perfect for the kind of solo concerts I keep doing).
- Portability.
- Playability.

I am thinking I might be investing in an SG12 this year, I love what you do Per...
