It's here!
UPS delivered Grand Stick #6211 today - wenge, turquoise linear inlays, MR, PASV-4. It's a beautiful object. Pictures to follow when I'm more awake. Thanks to Steve and Greg for producing such excellent tutorial material - Stickology and the Free Hands DVD, respectively. If I am off to anything less than a running start, it's not for lack of good guidance. If you have so much time and idle curiosity that you want to know how my first night with the Stick went, I have blogged about it.

Re: It's here!
Quote: The second take-away is that I am really not used to sucking this much at something. I certainly didn’t expect to pick the thing up and play a Steely Dan joint, but I didn’t expect to be quite as clumsy as I am. Like most people, I spend most of my time doing familiar things – things I’m good at, even excellent at. When I pick up new skills, they’re often related to skills I already have, and I pick them up without ever really sucking at them. Going into something relatively cold isn’t something I do often enough, and it shows in my psychological reaction to fumbling with the new instrument, which I did not find pleasant. This is the phase where I have to give myself permission to suck for an extended period of time. That’s not comfortable, but I need to do that to stick with it long enough to stop sucking.
Get out of my head.

Re: It's here!
It's pretty foreign isn't it? That's what struck me at first too. I thought my bass skills would help (and they probably have to some degree) but it's a completely different animal. Fumbling is a good word to use when describing what its like in the first little while after your stick shows up. It took me a year after I got mine to come up with anything that sounded decent, and to me that's a long time. I'm doing better now but still a master fumbler.
Have fun and patience.

Re: It's here!
I would have to disagree with you being a stumbler KC . Being able to play a song through from finish to start unaccompanied is a win. https://www.youtube.com/user/chiasson65https://www.youtube.com/user/perboysen? ... sults_mainAll that in a year or two? Impressive and ready to play out solo. Learning technique is important, but don't forget to apply what you learned in something that is meaningful - something as simple as a song.

No Stick here yet, but I've got Maschine. How many of you/us are there?
I've also got Komplete, Omnisphere, Trillian, Arturia and a ton more. How about you?
