Post Greetings from Florida
Saw the Stick for the first time on Youtube 1 month ago. Been obsessed ever since. Just ordered a 10-string, can't wait for it to arrive! Great to see that there's a community of players on the forum.

Congrats! Did you order a new Stick from SE or purchase a used one? Do you have any details about the Stick you can share with the group? (type of pickup, wood choice, tuning, Railboard, etc.) We all live vicariously when others buy new sticks! ;-)

Post Re: Greetings from Florida
Happy to share details. Was just putting my toe in the water of the forum.
So I have never played (or even seen) a Stick in person. When I saw the video a few weeks ago, I experienced a 'calling'. Ordered a new Stick from SE: 10-string Stick, tarara, classic tuning, medium gauge, Stickup, combo (black & chrome) closed gear Hipshot tuners, black pearl linear inlays. Don't know how I'll manage the 2-3 month wait. Cambria is great, she was kind enough to send me a photo of my Stick (before starting work - attached).
So I restrung my bass guitar this weekend (upside down, using a combination of bass and guitar strings), and was able to tune it to strings 7-10 of the Stick (G-D-A-E). I'm trying to get a head start on 'practicing'. Any suggestions on how I can 'practice' while I'm waiting for my Stick?

LOL ... I did the same with one of my basses before getting my first Stick. I don't know how much it helped but it will be an eye opener. As you'll read over and over again on this forum, the Stick IS NOT a bass and guitar combined, it's it's own instrument and must be approached as such. Something i STILL need to remind myself about occasionally!

As far as waiting, yeah that's tough, but on the up side, if they told you 3 months, that's not bad at all. For a long time people were waiting a year for their Sticks, 2 or 3 months is nothing! You'll be tapping before you know it.

Thanks for the encouragement! Yes, I totally get it that the Stick is it's own instrument. That's a big reason it's so compelling. The bass guitar stunt to experience the 5ths tuning, and to get a sense of where the notes are (at least on 4 of the strings). I realize that the action and string spacing are not comparable to an actual Stick, but it's better than my other idea: take a piece of wood and paint on frets and strings, LOL. At least I can hear notes.

South - between Miami and West Palm Beach
Haven't heard of any local stickists thus far.

There will be at least one more Stick player living down there in around 3 years when I take early retirement! ;-)
