Post NS...UK
Just saying "hi" from near Cambridge in the UK. I have an NS on order. From early discussions, I'd hoped to have it by now (at the end of April it was said to be "1 - 1 1/2 months and possibly sooner") but it's apparently not finished. Waiting as patiently as I can! I don't know yet how long it will take to get here from the US and clear customs once it's ready.

I'm having the GK3 fitted (highest 6 strings) and plan to get a GR-55 for a palette of sounds. I don't yet understand how to operate that while capitalising on the stereo split between the 4 lowest and 4 highest strings for "bass" and "guitar" type amping. I'm sure the mists will clear once it's in hand and I'll be back with questions!

Cheers.

1st welcome to the forum and (when you get it) the wonderful world of Stick instruments. I use to own an NS Stick (I kick myself for selling it) and can tell you it's a great instrument that can be played many different ways. With the synth pickup and Roland guitar synth you'll really be able to do amazing things. As far as the way the synth pickup splits, you can literally assign different sounds to each string if you want OR can assign no synth sounds to any string or set of strings. So if for example you want a string synth sound on only the high 4 strings and want to keep the 4 bass strings with no synth sound you can do that! I've read a lot on the GR-55, it's amazingly flexible. Between the NS Stick and the GR-55 you'll be able to go anyplace your imagination and skill allows you to go. Sounds like a killer set up, I envy you! Make sure you post photos when you get it!

Welcome! I hope that you receive your NS as soon as is humanly possible.

When it comes time to explore how you might communicate those myriad possible sounds, remember the Equipment section. ;)

Thanks!

It's all gone quiet, though last I heard it didn't need much more work.

Thanks for the heads up on the GR-55. I'll put info. on the rig in the right section when sorted.

(Obviously, first concern will be trying out different tunings!)

Personally i think the 4ths "8 string bass" tuning is the best on an NS Stick. I'd leave inverted 5th bass string "Stick" tunings to a traditional Stick. My own opinion of course but i don't think 8 strings are enough to really be able to take advantage of other Stick tunings. Even on the SB8 it seems most people who buy them and tune the bass to inverted 5ths eventually to sell them and buy a 10 or 12 string Stick.

Thanks. The choice for me is between straight 4ths and guitar tuning. I'll try them both (one day...!).

Fortunately for those that want to experiment, you can use the same strings for both tunings (straight 4ths and guitar tuning) as recommend by SE.

My NS is ready and paid for. Sadly, I can't have it shipped yet as I'm going to be away soon. Will hopefully get it around 22nd. A nice present for my return from vacation!

Dear Mr. 88P, can you please point me towards an explanation of how to do this - specifically, how to silence two or three of the strings in certain GR55 patches? I can't find it in the manual, nor on any forum (yet). Thanks.
