Which tuning is recommended? My Rail is being assembled in the next month or so. I have never played guitar. |

There's about a half dozen variations of the basic reverse ascending 5ths on the bass side and ascending 4ths on the melody side. For a 10 string Stick, Baritone melody might be a good place to start and by many players reckoning, the best use of 10 strings. A lot of guys also say RMR (Raised Matched Reciprocal) sounds great on a Railboard. Of those various tunings, there's not that much difference between them. They're all very symmetrical and kind of interchangeable. A bit like various size saxophones. If you can play one, you could play them all without too much adjustment. You won't fully understand that till you have a Stick in your hands and get the lay of the land. Go here and look at 10 string tunings for a closer look. http://www.stick.com/instruments/tunings/ |

There is a tuning for people who want to use piano method books, but it requires a twelve-stringed instrument. You can read about it here: viewtopic.php?f=27&t=6020 Mad Monk. |
