Post subject:  Duel Melody Reciprocal tuning?

I've had this idea on my mind for a while, and while I assume it's been discussed before I couldn't find any info on it. Basically you take the bass side of the Stick and tune it up an octave, so you have melody on both sides. Keep the inverted fifths but just tune them up an octave. I imagine it would sound like a double coursed stringed instrument or a swarm of bees lol

Any of yall ever tryed this? Thanks

Certainly an interesting idea. It's likely you'd only be able to get away with it on the lower pitched strings though as the higher strings would be pitched way too high.

On a 5ths tuning, strings get high real fast so the highest ones on your theoretical tuning are likely gonna break before you tune them up to pitch. I'd just split the difference and get an SG12.

DQ2U951 Here's the SE tuning page for 'Matched Reciprocalâ„¢ SG12â„¢'

https://stick.com/instruments/tunings/sg12/mr_sg12/

Melody
1. G4
2. D4 (-4th)
3. A3 (-4th)
4. E3 (-4th)
5. B2 (-4th)
6. F2# (-4th)

Accompaniment
7. G1
8. D2 (+5th)
9. A2 (+5th)
10. E3 (+5th)
11. B3 (+5th)
12. F#4 (+5th)

You probably already know, but
Guitar high E = E4
Guitar low E = E2
Bass low E = E1

That would require spending money I don't have haha :D

I tune my instrument down a m3 so I don't think string tension would be a problem, it's a 10 string too so It should work either way.

10 string make it easier.

Maybe take the thinest practical string on the 5ths side (so string 10 on your instrument) as your datum, then work 'backwards' (up?) from there to see what the result is?

D4 is the highest string that SE supply for the usual long scale Stick.

The 'normal' 10 string on MR is E3, so D4 is only a whole tone short of your octave shift target?

I agree with poorman and strings.one is a tension issue the other a sound cure.
