Post First gig "In the Round"
Well, I had a new kind of gig recently. After playing Stick almost 19 years, I finally performed "in the round".

Marking my fifth year as a permanent resident of Canada (and resident of Fort Qu'Appelle, Saskatchewan), Saturday May 1st I performed a full show at our local arts center. The Qu'Appelle Valley Centre for the Arts (QVCA) is a 105 year old school house hosting a gallery and performance room. I played for a small and attentive crowd of about 40 while seated in the middle of the gallery with audience seated in a circle around me. Very intimate and fun!

My standard bar room set features numerous covers (Mikes Davis, Coletrane, Joni Mitchell, The Who, Richard Rogers, Metheny/Mays). But this two set gig featured only my original works, treating it like visiting an art gallery.

The crowd was loyal...braving through original, instrumental solo music. Not for the faint of heart!

Fun night. Thanks for letting me share.

Good for you! I've only been out as a solo Stick player once so far, takes guts! ;-) Are there any recordings you can share with the forum?

Always great to hear you are getting out there with your own music, Brian. Any pics?

I first saw Tony with King Crimson in 1981 at t theater in the round, where I was seated behind him. I didn't see the Stick at all. It wasn't until three years later that I saw him again that I understood what he was doing.

Talk about being blown away....

We met at the Gabriola retreat in 2011. The tune stuck with me. As Kevin Keith said, "Man, you can write!"
