Post Center Point Stereo Spacestation V.3 - One Speaker Solution?
I came across this very interesting speaker which uses a "mid-side" speaker arrangement in a single cabinet. It is pitched as primarily a keyboard amp but can be used for other instruments. It also has a subwoofer out for extra range in the bass frequencies. Any thoughts on how the Stick would sound through this speaker?

Thanks.

Jeremy

I've been knowing Aspen since the 70s when he started Groove Tubes and he's been working on this thing for a number of years. I saw it demonstrated at the Amp Show in Van Nuys maybe 9 or 10 years ago and it does sound good and will fill a small room nicely like a living room or a coffehouse. As soon as you add a drummer and maybe a couple more amplified instruments this thing by itself would prolly be struggling to compete in the mid sized juke joints I played all my life. All I ever heard played thru it was a clean 6 string guitar played solo in a hotel room and it was great for that. I haven't heard this new model and haven't seen Aspen since Groove Tubes went belly up but I wonder about how a Stick's low range is gonna be reproduced thru only an 8" speaker no matter what the power and headroom. For me to get real excited about it as a Stick rig, I'd have to actually try it and maybe I will since his shop is 5 minutes drive from my property. Pretty expensive tho compared to the alternatives.

Thanks for the background. From what I have ready, the product has been updated. I agree that the frequency range does not go low enough for the Stick. A subwoofer would definitely be needed.

Looks like a really cool idea. I doubt it would work just plugging one side of The Stick into L and one into R since nothing between the Stick's L and R is common. The Stick is really dual mono and not stereo.

If you processed the Stick signal to be stereo and then fed L and R into the amp, then you would be on to something.

As Michael mentioned, I also question the ability of this to handle low frequencies. Also, the quoted power sounds good until you realize it is divided up between speakers.

Still, it seems like a very exciting development in the area of live stereo.

Good points. When I play out, I am usually running my keyboards and Stick through the same speakers. This product seems to be geared towards true stereo instruments.

I own one - bought it a little less than a year ago. I use it for Stick, keyboards, and eDrums. I current use it in conjunction with a JBL subwoofer, but I'm looking to downsize the subwoofer. The stick goes into a Line 6 X3 Pro, with outputs going to a Rane mixer and crossover. Crossover outputs to subwoofer and Spacestation V3. The keys and eDrums also go from their respective outputs to the Rane mixer....... blah blah.

The SS V3 is a sonic beast. I highly recommend it. Understand, however, that a stereo signal is a must, and there is a bit of a learning curve.

Love it!

You are quite welcome. I had some issues with the 1st one I bought from Sweetwater. Aspen was kind enough to allow me to bring the faulty unit to his studio so he could take a look at it. I ended up spending almost 2 hours there talking with Aspen. Amazing guy - amazing studio - amazing amp! He replaced my unit with one of his in-stock units he keeps aside for just such situations. I am VERY impressed with his attention to detail and customer service. I am equally impressed with his love of what he does. Meeting him was a bit like meeting Emmett.

I promised him I would talk up the amp with Stick players and eDrummers whenever I got the chance. I guess this is my chance with Stick players. The amp produces (within the realm of physics) decent bass down to 100-125hz. Because my bass needs are much stronger (kick on eDrums and bass on Stick), I augment the amp with a subwoofer.

The sound is clean, open, spacious, and warm. It's not "stereo" and definitely not "mono". It's........different.

For those interested, read this thread. I'm in there somewhere. Just about anything you want to know about the amp is here. It is 148 pages long, and counting..

I just picked up the Spacestation V and it sounds amazing! It fills the whole room with sound. I have tried with with the Line 6 Helix and also the stereo phone jack out on my Yamaha THR10.

I am still experimenting with the best subwoofer to use (trying to balance size/weight with bass response) and have a Seismic Audio Mini Tremor on the way (12" speaker) on the way. Their 10" speaker Really Mini version did not make the cut.

hmm, so it's sort of M-S on the output (instead of the input/mic side)

just out of curiosity, can you feed is and M-S signal and bypass the encoder matrix in the amp?

good point on the dual mono nature of the stick.

and it brings up some thoughts on how "separate" the sides of the stick are
