Re: Compression..good? bad..Ugly?
One thought on running pedals under-board as gene does. those that use electronically controlled bypass*is that they may or may not have a volatile (not saved on power off) bypass states.
That means you'd have to make sure to get to the underside of the board and turn them on each power cycle.
I checked the TC (it beats practicing, practicing is hard) and it IS persistent across power cycles so it'd work - but many of the boss products for example usually start up bypassed.
but that fancy new boss one, I suspect will default of bypass on power-up
I really like the TC, but it IS very parameter-heavy so it's easy to get in a quagmire and make some really bad sounds or try to get too slick on control assignments and just make a mess of things**.
OTOH, if you have a solid understanding of what you want or can resist fiddling too too much you can set it up and HEY! you! stop playing with those knobs and play the damn thing
*could still be TB under relay control, so don't just think "ah, it's TB so it'll always be the same"
**on advice of my attorney (whom I'm married to) I can neither confirm nor deny ever having done that. especially with compressors where the theory and the practice still seem tenuously connected.
I envy those that really deeply understand using compressors. I do not
