Post Re: Evolution of a Pedalboard
The microsynth is the best pedal ever made! It is an all analog effect with perfect square wave distortion/psuedo synth tone, and with no latency of course. It has attack, and decay which are unheard of in pedals. Its a brilliant pedal with tons of tweaking with sliders. For me it functions as a synth, lead fripp type distortion tone, staccato synth, and bass octaver. Invented in the 70's too! Oh, and the bass version sounded about the same to me. Maybe they tweaked/eq'ed something but its virtually the same pedal.

Oh yeah, and it works quite well on either bass or melody side. There is some kind of preamp screw on the back that you can adjust for the input volume, so you get ideal "tracking" for lack of a better word. There are so many different tones that you can get. Also, there are after market mods so you can control it with expression pedals(ect). I got a blue L.E.D/tone tweak mod and it sounds even warmer. The new bass-micro's are a bit smaller in size so thats nice. I'm assuming since they are analog too that they sound and perform as well as the original.

On another note: are those tiny M&M preamps for sale? That would be great for my pedalboard setup. Any info on those? Do they need a power supply?

Bump for a question to MM or anybody else :
Did someone try the EHX Micro Bass Synth on the Stick? Any comments?

For me I found out, that all EHX synth effects including the HOG, the POG and the Micro Bass Synth have a bad clean signal. They make a nice effect, but I do not want to have them in the signal chain, because when they are off they destroy my tone. This is not valid for the Micro POG which is working great for me...

@ MM : what king of jacks/connectors do you use for your PB? I use GL's but I'd like to make my own patches cables. Any recommendation?

I use a special cable I got from Glockenklang and soldered it by myself with plugs from Neutrik:

I have a friend who told me how to do the soldering right, and now the hum is away... ;-)

Yes, the TheMMamp is available from RICHTER Electronic Engineering. Just write an email to Andreas Richter mail@richter-ee.de
I currently test the first of it's kind and all I can say is that it is great. The sound is really fine. And you can use a 9V battery as power supply. It is rock solid and fits in a Stick gigbag. So I can take it to every session where I can not use my complete setup. Now I have a good sounding and flexible preamp always with me.

Best,
TheMM

Really? It's very strange, as I think the MBS has a true bypass switch :?:
I'm gonna wheck out some connectors and cables and solder them by myself too.
Don't you miss the tone controls with your MMamp?

I also thought it might be only the particular device I tested, but I also had this problem on other devices from EHX, so it does not seem to be only a defect. Anyway, try it for yourself, maybe I'm just a little too picky.

No, I do not miss them in any way. Most amps have great tone controls, but for 90% I do not need a tone control at all. But this depends on your taste. I like what comes out of my instrument. I like it with new strings, and I also like the sound of older strings. So the sound is changing over time, but this is life. I also do not like to play the same notes every night, so a living sound is better than a static, but dead sound. Just my 2 cents...

Best,
TheMM

Well, in fact, with my new Grand with Stickup, I just need a little tweaking of the mids controls and I leave bass and highs knobs at their 0 position. Before, with my Grand Stick with ACTV2, I was always turning on the bass controls and off the highs controls.
I really like to test the MMamp. I assume it's the same as the StepABout with all controls at mid, but how about the our mids controls? At mid position too?

Post Re: Evolution of a Pedalboard
The intention of the TheMMamp is to have the original StepABout preamp secion WITHOUT tone control. All the tone control cirquits are eliminated and therefore the cirquits have less effect on the original tone due to the less electronic parts in the signal processing chain.

For me, the best test is to have a new device on my Glockenklang amp. The Glockenklang has a wonderful clean preamp section by itself and if you add a device between the instrument and the amp you can directly hear, how this device alters the signal of the instrument. For example I experienced many cheap effect pedals to "flatten" the sound of my instrument even in bypass mode which is the worst thing that could happen. The TheMMamp on the other hand does not alter the sound in any negative way. I do not want to say that it NOT alters the tone in any way, but I can not tell any negative effect of the original sound. The spirit of the instrument is still there - just a little bit louder than before...

Best,
TheMM

Its true that the microsynth colors the clean tone a little bit. However, its not like the harsh digital pedals. There is some kind of preamp(with adjustable screw) which warms the tone up, maybe cuts a tiny amount of highs, but Its really not bad at all . Maybe the new ones don't color the tone as much. The coloration is so unlike boss or other pedals though, that you may not have a problem with it.

Great news about the M&M, thats tiny! Do you know the price, or shall I discuss that via email? Does the battery last a long time? Or is it more for emergency type use?

I do not know what Andreas will sell it for. You should contact him directly. I have the TheMMamp for about a week now and can not tell how long the battery lasts. It works fine with battery and there is an on/off switch for battery mode so you can leave the thing plugged without using battery. If you like I can post a few photos of the device later today.

Best,
TheMM
