I really like the EHX Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi on the bass side (with Stickup). Can do alot with that pedal. That is what I use most of the time. Have no favourite on the melody side yet. http://www.ehx.com/products/deluxe-bass-big-muff-pi |

Skydiver wrote: I was on a quest to get the most annoying distortion sound so that it would cut through... I used to achieve that in my bass days w/ a Big Muff BEFORE a Mu-Tron III. Totally uncontrolable. Our guitarist would ask for it by saying, "get that 'make our ears bleed' sound"... Can't get that with the POD. |

I have a Two Notes Le Lead pedal on the way. It flew under the radar on eBay, so I was able to pick it up for a smoking deal. I've been wanting to try this pedal for a while now (with Stick and my guitar), so I'll post back here later with some initial impressions after I'm able to play with it for a while. http://www.two-notes.com/en/preamps/le-lead/ |

Recently I was trying the Boss Dyna-drive DN-2 which is quite good and unique in a way-more dynamic playing=more distortion |

I'm thinking about the Kingsley overdrive pedals - valve goodness. Perhaps the Minstrel or Page. Simon is very helpful and immediately understood the issue of "naturally compressed dynamics" of tapping. For articulation his suggestion was a modest overdrive, rather than a highly saturated drive which adds further compression. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Aesthetics ar always in the eye of the beholder, especially when you have a new pedal. I recently purchased the Hologram Dream Sequence. I bought it for the time and subdivision rhythmic effects, but the overdrive is a ripper and clearly isn't going to be the same as anything else out there. Another option... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MhRS6d04JJ8 Youtube won't go straight in using youtube2. Problem with Au orientation of urls? Aaah, why they can't leave it alone. Well, I learned something firsthand after some experimentation that many folks have talked about regarding the Stick and distortion: high gain is NOT your friend. Crosstalk even happens with what I consider to be sort of "mid-gain" territory (from a guitar perspective). From now on I probably won't be doing anything beyond overdrive for my melody side when I want distortion. The high gain stuff will have to stick (perhapspun intended) to my electric guitars. Sidenote: I don't think the extra gain really adds to the perceived aggression of the tone of the melody side like it does to a guitar. Something with the timbre or the technique of the Stick just doesn't seem to translate very well with high gain. Anyway, thanks for reading my stream of consciousness. |
