String tension?
Hi Peeps. Is there any problem with having a 10th string as a 1st (Classic-heavy gauge) for any amount of time? Any perceivable stress on the neck? I cut my new 1 & 2 strings to short yesterday. Doh!

Re: String tension?
In Classic tuning, I wouldn't do it. Baritone Melody, it should be alright (just off the top of my head.
Well, let me look around... (googling)...
According to an old search that I can't find anymore, the 10th string is a .012", and the 1st string (in classic tuning) is a .008". I wouldn't tune a .012 to that high D if I were you.
If you're in baritone melody, the 1st string will be an A, a fourth down, and the 12 might work. But an .008 or .009 will only cost a buck at the music store. The D'Addarios are nice and long - use those.
