I have been racking my brain on how to get two signal paths through my iOS rig, which I have found will not work. So, I'll probably be selling the iTrack Dock. I had used mainstage when I was playing at church, and it sounded great, but I had a catastrophic crash in between sets, so I shelved it for a while. So today, I sat down and tried to make it work. I had been using the Apogee Gio when I was playing at church, which went when I went back to pedals. I think that was the hiccough in my setup. I have a sonicport VX kicking around, which has a TRS in - thats great, right? The stereo-in is the 1/8" jack. So I went into my TRS splitter box from the stick, and out from that into the 1/8 jack with a stereo cable.(which is a little like translating from English to French and then back into English) So now I have two signals coming into mainstage. I put one signal into its own channel and voila! it worked. So I think I can run the melody side into Jam Origin's MIDI guitar and use it to control synths (still figuring this part out - any help is appreciated) I can also control the effects with the softstep, and use the pressure feature to control some parameters (like the wet reverb level or gain on the distortion). I'll be experimenting a bit more and maybe make a video of the rig over the holiday weekend. Anyone else running mainstage? Especially interested in integrating it with MIDI Guitar... |

I use the soft step 2 all the time to control my big sky and time line and will use it to control my Knox mixer as well as my mod duo when I finally get it onto my board. It’s finnick to program the SS 2 but works great. Unlimited ways to use it I’ll post a pic of my pedal Baird sometime |

I experimented with Mainstage for a while. It's a cool program. Works great with Softstep. The issue I had was how to use it on stage. I have a Mac Mini and would have to get a laptop (out of budget at this time) and I don't want to take a laptop on stage. I also didn't want to worry about the computer crashing... What I did love about Mainstage is the ability to use all the plugins I have with Logic. Positive Grid's Bias FX worked amazing. My needs are a 2 in 2 out with mono synth capability. I currently use the MOD Duo with a Sonuus G2M for my bass side. I play NS/Stick so monophonic midi on the bass side is works fine. I do want to get melody side Polyphonic Midi and thinking of trying the Fishman Tripleplay. String Spacing may be an issue... |

I've tried to go full computer/digital setup for live gigs 3-4 times now and every time I've ended up going back. I can't put my finger on what bothered me about it. But I was always convinced that everything was great until I plugged back into my old rig after a while and it felt like ... well ... you know how sometimes your ears are a little plugged up and you don't even realize it until you yawn and all of a sudden you can hear great? That was the feeling I always had when I plugged back into my old rig. So my setup was always pre-amping with the StepAbout and then running into MainStage. I would use a mishmash of FX and I used the Mobius Looper controlling everything with my Rocktron foot controller. The mechanics of the whole setup always worked superbly. That said, I still use the computer setup for keys/synths in my home studio. I'm planning on picking up a SoftStep 2 just for the keyboard setup. Will likely make that purchase in the next week or so. |
