I have a couple units.

Sorry for the delayed response. I'm recovering from NAMM...

Here is a link to Pascal Glanville's MOD DUO pedalboard and sound sample.

What do you think?

Dean,

I see video after video of how to manage the virtual pedals. Do you have any video on how to handle the hardware plugins? In and out seems straightforward, but what about controllers? As an analog cro-magnon man, pardon my ignorance.

Apparently Dean already did a bit of this...

I see you posted my video... but I can make a better one... At the time of this video the Control Chain devices were not quite available yet...

Controllers are really easy to add.
There are generally two ways to add a controller. MIDI and Control Chain.

MIDI is very simple. You can connect through the standard Midi In jack or use the USB for USB devices like the Softstep. You would go to the function you want to assign. You would use the MIDI-Learn option on that function and hit the button or turn a knob on the device and it's assigned! USB devices are great because the USB will power the device.

Control Chain is a protocol they developed for connecting external devices such as footswitches/expression pedals. It sends a lot more information over ethernet cable for displays and other stuff. Control Chain devices can run much longer cables... like hundreds of yards...
MOD has created their own Control Chain footswitches (four switches and screens showing what they are assigned to). Units should be available in a month or so.
MOD has also developed their own Control Chain expression pedal and will be out in a couple months. (It turns out to be pretty difficult to make a good expression pedal...
You can make your own devices using an arduino and the Control Chain shield. I did this to make my own expression pedal interface so I can plug in any expression pedal into it for now... but I can't wait for their expression pedal to come out.

I hope this shows that it's a pretty simple process.

I'm happy to answer any questions!

Thanks, Dean!

It basically looks like they took the advantages of virtual/digital and the simplicity of analog for those of us old-schoolers who don't want to spend as much time learning a pedal-board as we did our instrument.

Do you know if more than one expression pedal can be run off the control chain? By example it might be fun to wah in one instance, volume/overdrive in another.

Can the same switch be assigned to two different pedals? E.g. I want reverb or distortion but not both. Could it toggle this scenario?

Yeah. The GUI is super simple to use. Just drag and drop. Split and combine signals.

You can daisy chain several footswitches together. The expression pedals will be the same way. On the Arduino interface I can put several expression jacks on it but I have only one for now...

In the current firmware you can only assign one function to a footswitch. But I think it's something that will be coming up in the future since there have been many people asking for it...
To get around this there is a function called "presets" where you can set all your parameters one way, then have another "preset" for all your parameters set to totall different settings and toggle between them with one footswitch. You can have many "presets"... So have one for intro, then chorus, then verse. Or have different "presets" set for rhythm and one for lead. With a press of a button it will turn on/off whatever you want and also change values. Have different volume levels, drive, BPM, delay, etc... for each "preset".

The preset issue was also put together because it takes time to switch between pedalboards, which can take a several seconds to load and you can't do that during a song...

The launch has been delayed and will most likely be mid-March now...

In the mean time please subscribe to the email list to hear about upcoming specials and product launches.
https://www.greenelephantstudio.com/Newsletter/Subscribe

I'm going to have an amazing deal for the DUO when I finally launch. I promise it's going to be worth subscribing to my email.

It's been an amazing ride to start my own business. If you have never done it, there seems to be just one more thing that you have to do to get going. I want everything to be perfect but at the same time I need to move forward. There are many decisions to make and all I can do is make one at a time. Sometimes there are things out of my control but I take it in stride and they seem to become blessings in disguise.

This delay is a blessing in disguise and I can only promise that if you are on the fence about a MOD DUO you won't want to miss the special I will announce when I go live... so subscribe to the list.
