As Rodrigo says. Your hands are multifinger compressors.

With the Stick the only compressor I like is the LA Studio in the Helix family of effects. There’s also a three band compressor that works with my NS Stick nicely. Use that for making the NS a bit closer to the sound of a bass guitar with heavier gage strings.

Now that they just released a Sans amp Bass DI effect, I doubt I will use the compressor with the Stick that much.

Post Re: Compressor Pedals
I've been playing my Sticks thru a PODX3 forever (obviously, it's antique by now) and I've gone thru the "don't use a comp., learn to get the sound with your fingers" and I get that, and alot of the responses here are "oh, I don't use one", but that was not the question asked. I use the comps. that I guess are the "studio" ones in the POD. I don't like the stomp models in the unit. And again, I'm using them again - both sides, DBR, like a double bass vehicle w/ guitar capabilities. And I'm having a shit-ton of fun. I suggest going out and trying every one you can get hands-on and see what does it for you. It's subjective...

I'm pretty sure this is the one I bought, which - well... does no good if you are running both channels, but since I run mono [by choice] it kind of makes pedal choices easier, because then you - or at least I - can think along the lines of a guitarist...
I'll have to try it out along with all the other goodies I got from TC late last year.

I played with the compressor pedals a lot over the weekend. I really like the Carl Martins because you can set them up with the threshold = 0 and the slope slightly shallower than 1:1. That way the output volume / input volume curve is still linear, just not at such a drastic slope. So if I accidentally hit the string too hard, the results are not as severe. LOL.

For the melody side I tried actually having two compressors in series, the Carl Martin with a linear setting that I leave on all the time, and a Boss CS-3 with a heavy compression setting that I kick in just for doing Holdsworth-like super legato single note lines playing very lightly. The bass side just has a different Carl Martin.

This seems to work really well. I am going to build a temporary pedalboard with these and see how it goes. I will make some recordings and post them at some point.

I'm just about done with my Stick pedalboard. I sometimes play with both hands on the melody side, and while I do this, low thumping sounds come out the bass side.

So I made a pedal that mutes the bass side for these occasions. Just a stomp switch in the chassis of a broken mini phaser pedal with a light added so I can tell when it's muting. Works really well! I thought I might have problems with popping from the switch, but you can't hear it at all when you are not playing. I will post some pictures and recordings of the pedalboard at some point.

24 bars of niftiness and I can almost hear the bass walking four to the bar.

Both hands churning out progressive jazz blues chords that also spell out a melody line.

So how do you squeeze your hands together for the chords or are you using different sets of melody strings per hand? This technique would no doubt separate your hands by 5 frets, a 4th interval along the board.

Yeah, the left hand is playing on the top 4 strings and the right hand is playing on strings 2-5 using my "rubber stamp" chord technique:

"Rubberstamping that includes the thumb like "Thumbs" Carlisle's old lap guitar technique?

Yeah, the right thumb represented by "RT" in the diagrams.
