Post Best tuner for a 10 string stick?
Hey folks:
As I am waiting for my stick build ... can anyone recommend a good tuner to use for a 10 string stick? I need to replace one on my bass board so trying to find one that would work well with my incoming stick. Thanks in advance.

I've found the clip on tuners to be the best instead of pedal tuners. Because, you can tune both sides (bass signal or melody signal), or any string without having to change signal paths via unplugging or using an A/B pedal.

The clip ons are also nice as you can attach it to the pickup instead of the headstock. My eyes & head seem to point downward anyways, making the tuner available instantly.

Hope that helps.

all good points. An inline tuner loses a lot of appeal if you have to tune two channels.

My SP2 preamp has a two outs one of them goes to my effects and the other out goes to the tuner. Both sides of the tuner are always on. I have my tuner sitting on my amp at eye level I didnt want my tuner on my pedal board.

So WS, how do you like the Korg? Do you use it for intonation set-ups on string changes?

Post Re: Best tuner for a 10 string stick?
Greetings all,
I am also using a clip on tuner, as Brian described, clipped to the pickup housing of my 12 string Grand Stick. I use a "Snark Super Tight" tuner. Very convenient, and inexpensive...about $15.

I also have a Korg "Pitch Black" pedal tuner, (about $70) mounted on my pedal board, and the Snark clip on seems to be just as accurate as the Korg, but much more convenient. So I use the clip on tuner most of the time.

One point; the Korg pedal automatically mutes the signal when tuning. Might be important to a musician at a gig.

Just my experience. Enjoy the the journey!

Lots of good advice here, but I will add one more:

Before I got my HX Stomp, I had a bass guitar rig with a Sansamp BDDI and a Boss tuner. My Stick has the ACTV-2 pickup, so the bass side would go into that little rig and the melody side would go into either just an amp or a clean boost and an amp. To tune, I would flip the mono switch on the pickup and then step on the tuner pedal.

Now that I have an HX Stomp both signal paths go into and out of there with a tuner built in so that's pretty cool.

This is the tuner I am using, I've had it for a while and do not know if it is still made, but I do know that when I bought it quite sometime ago, close to 20 years ago if memory serves me well... at a Guitar Center one town over, I specifically stated I needed a tuner for a Chapman Stick, and like the whole place became silent, and the salesman gave me the unit which is in the picture below.

It's a BOSS TU-2

I do not know if it still made - but I've been using it quite a bit over the past few days tuning - and re-tuning - my RB-8 as I try to figure out something that works [another story for another day] but seriously this tuner is the best, and I've gone though quite a few in my 40 years of playing....

Thanks all for the suggestions. I’m thinking the clip on option might be the best given the stereo output but I still have time to work through this “simple” task. Thanks again.
