Post Re: Stick rest
Once we have a home designer corner here, I will present my experiences :)

My musical kingdom is located in an attic with a very sloping roof. So I have little space to hold the instruments vertically. But I've always liked Roman Giza lovingly referring to his Stick as "Katana". So I thought why wouldn't I keep my Sticks like a sword rack ?

Does that blue, ridged, material you've used as (soft?) covering have a name?

David it’s called Blacktip Jetsports , it’s a soft rubber material used on marine use ,boat decking. Comfortable on bare feet yet ridged and self adhesive . I use it on another product that I have in production. Quickly made from scraps around my shop. 24 hour project.

That’s a clever design. Is the belt hook engaged with those crossbars?

Yes Steve, hard rubber cross overs where the belt hook is engaged.since I have more than 2 sticks I was going to make one with a lazy Susan base but don’t have the time. The only way these sticks are falling off is if my wife sees my truck at my girlfriends house.

I keep all my instruments in the case when I'm not playing them. 8-)

I had one of these D'Addario guitar dock rests that is designed to clamp to the edge of a table, or something vertical like the side of a bookcase. After repairing a Stick that had apparently been knocked over, punching the volume controls into the pickup housing, I kept getting the heebie-jeebies when resting my Stick on the edge of the desk, but this obviously wouldn't help.

So...I took a saw to it to remove the "hook", then fashioned a replacement from some 3/4" plywood and a bit of suede and fastened it with some epoxy.

Voila...

If anyone wants to do the same, that guitar rest is available at Sweetwater (and others I'm sure) for $18

That brand seems hard to get in the UK, but thinking about the context a search for 'rubber anti-slip mat' finds lots of alternatives. I can see it having other uses.

I'm still pretty happy with my mimimalist 'loop of cord over two hooks', but it's hard to move around (unless you happen to have suitably placed hooks).

The lengths we go to to avoid shelling out $180 for a stick stand - $15 stand, my old softball glove, and 3 zip ties - it'll do [emoji3061]Image

I thought I ordered a stand for a bassoon but it turns out it's originally made for a keytar - Roland ST-AX2. Works pretty well!

The phrases "Appropriate technology" & "Reduce, Reuse & Recycle" come to mind. :)
