Impulse Responses - anybody using them?
I decided to spend some time testing out impulse responses with the Railboard. I can now create almost any tone that I want with the Railboard and Helix.
I typically use an LA Studio Comp, an IR and a Reverb on each channel. This is a very simple setup and it works very well. The Dynamic Hall Reverb for Helix is very nice. I like it very much.
As for the impulse responses, I bought 8GB of them, with an estimated 100,000 different IRs. It's going to take a while to go thru them all, but IRs are in a league of their own. An Impulse Response is the closest thing that I've heard to the real amps.

Re: Impulse Responses - anybody using them?
Just got my FM3, and, I can't believe what I was missing! It uses IR's for its cabinet block...and, the sound and "feel" is mind-blowing. And there's over 1,000 IR's in the unit to play with. Will definitely take some time to work through them (and everything else in that box), but, I really do want to play with how they feel...on both sides of the instrument, too. Only tough thing about the FM3 is you only get one Amp and Cab block, but the Cab Block is in stereo and you can pick a separate cabinet for each side of the block.

David, I answered an ad on Kijiji. The cost was $20 and I was given a private link to download the files. A quick online search and here is another example of such an ad. https://www.kijiji.ca/v-amp-pedal/barri ... 1591848864DavidWS wrote: WerkSpace wrote: As for the impulse responses, I bought 8GB of them, with an estimated 100,000 different IRs. Even if they are 99% irrelevant that's still 1000 at 2 cents a piece! It will be a while before I'm looking for subtlety of sound (at present the biggest factor in my sound is my incompetence LOL!), but these things are good to know about. Thank you.

Yes, I use IRs. Live for my Sticks in my Fractal Audio amp/fx box for speaker cabs. Sometimes also in a DAW when producing recorded music, mainly for sound design as I prefer algorithmic reverb rather than IR based.

Re: Impulse Responses - anybody using them?
This is something I need to experiment with more. I’ve used impulse responses of a classical guitar body subtly mixed in with the regular signal to add a slight sense of resonance to the tone.
I’ve found it takes some effort to successfully use guitar amp impulse responses for clean tones, as I feel it usually muffles and dulls the sound of the instrument. For high gain sounds it’s pretty essential so the distortion doesn’t sound nasty, I usually use a rotary speaker simulation as well in these situations to get a smoother, more animated tone.

Re: Impulse Responses - anybody using them?
Impulse Responses make a huge difference. The Line 6 'Dynamic Hall' reverb allows me to play in the space that makes those IRs shine. Now, if I could only figure out how to get my Sax to play with that amazing reverb. It would save me from having to play in stair wells. https://www.youtube.com/c/ArminK%C3%BCpper/videosPer Boysen wrote: Yes, I use IRs. Re: Impulse Responses - anybody using them?
I haven't felt the need to play around with these for Stick although I might take a stab for distortion. Honestly, it's pretty rare for me to hear a distorted Stick sound that I like (including my own) so this might be the ticket.
With that said though, I run Stick and acoustic guitar through Helix Native on my computer, I've used some IRs just for guitar and ... honestly ... my amplified acoustic guitar sound has never sounded better.
Beware the freebies though. There are definitely high quality IRs and not so high quality IRs.

I hear ya, but FWIW I think your distorted sound I've heard on various versions of "frantic" really works well BTW just a knockout tune, that one
