Some players add some extra felt to further dampen strings; I see this most frequently on the melody side. (I noticed at the Stick Men show a couple weeks ago that Tony Levin has a small strip on his, as well as a scrunchi over both sides; see photo.)
Do you do this? If so, where do you place your extra felt strip? Photos will be very helpful if you can include them!

I used a pipe cleaner once for a Police song: Every Breath You Take. only on the bass side to get that muted sound for the intro. I placed it near the tail of the instrument, weaving the pipe cleaner in and out of the bass strings. It had the desired effect.

There's a company called Gruv Gear that sells Chapman stick sized fret wraps called string muters. I bought one, but didn't like it near the top of the instrument. It got in the way of my hands. I later used it to replace the pipe cleaner as described above.

That's a cool idea; makes for a cleaner appearance than a sweatband or a sock tied around the instrument, for sure.
I'm not looking for a total wrap for both sides, though, just some extra damping on the melody side. (I need access to that low C!)
I've looked on the SE site and went to the Artist gallery, and I see Steve Adelson's Stick (in that photo) has that mod I'm thinking about, as do Nick Beggs, Pete Begley, and Pascal Glanville, to name a few. You can also see it on the photos of the Rosewood Stick on the Instruments >Stick page slide show.
I think I have my answer; all of them are consistently placed against the X-fret.

Go to your local art craft supply store they have pieces of felt in every color. I had powder blue laying around and tried that it worked. You can use 1 layer to start, and you might need a double under some of the lower pitched strings. I discovered this solution when I started "experimenting" with my Ironwood. I have black now, although I'm not using anything additional on the 12-string DBR right now, and the Ironwood is in between experiments. So, like I implied, the felt can be built up in layers and/or "laced" thru the strings at the bridge end also and the felt sheets cost...a dollar.

Not verging on. Always has been. MIDI equipped Sticks come with an extra damper in order to avoid false triggers. You mostly see it on the melody side because most MIDI equipped Sticks are equipped melody only.

Although my placement idea now has a wrench thrown in because I just saw a pic of Boaz Bar's Railboard...and the extra damper is on TOP of the X-fret:

This evening I put on a new set of strings, and took the opportunity to give my Railboard a thorough cleaning (including taking the back covers off the pickup housing to spray the guts with contact cleaner). SE was kind enough to send along a dampener strip along with my string order (a full strip, the one you find up top by the nut assembly). I took that full strip and cut it in half lengthwise, then cut one of those halves again. Here's the result:

The effect is EXACTLY what I was looking for. That piece is a little thicker than what SE puts on for Sticks with MIDI, but that's not a problem.
