Wondering what ideas people have about very small practice rigs? Just enough for Stick In Headphones out, very small & portable. I've seen few I recall at StickCamps. Approximately a million years ago I had a little Boss unit the size of a walkman back then , guitar in , basic FX & headphones out. It was powered by a couple of AA batteries I think or maybe a 9V. Happy to hear suggestions. Thanks

I bought an H5 for this and don't regret it in the least

Korg Pandora. I use the guitar version but there was one for bass, too. It has a belt hook and i use a short cable from stereo->mono.

thinking about purchasing a Boss Gt-1000 Core for small gigs around. Add some expression pedal and remote switch control, and you have a very (VERY) powerful and professional rif that you can carry in a small backpack. You can use a headphone as well to rehearse while everyone is sleeping. It requires a bit of programming though.

I like a lot my H4n...many effects available...works with batterys or normal electrical power. You also can record with it. It can be direct recording or with 2 small mics on top of this H4n.

Since this last came up I've been keeping a note of the battery life with my H4n.

Typically I use the H4n for two 30m sessions a week when it's more convenient than turning on my usual setup. I'm just using it as a way of hearing what I'm playing, i.e. I'm not recording (so I don't know how that might affect consumption).

The cells I use are 2x 1900 mAh Eneloop (a high performance brand) Ni-MH AA rechargables. Typically I've been seeing around 4hrs +/- 20 minutes from each set.

So with this usage, change over is just a matter of a couple of minutes about once a month. That's more than acceptable, so I'm not hunting for a bigger power pack.

Following previous posts, I'm too using a Zoom recorder (H8), good device!

I've tried most of the pocket sized gadgets going back to the Scholz Rockman but I've never been satisfied with the EFX, tone, lack of stereo inputs and clean headroom. Mainly because any Stick pickup - and I've had them all - doesn't sound right in mono right off the pickup. It needs to go into some kind of mixer and THEN down to mono. That sounds pretty good when the two sides are balanced just right. The smallest rig I've found that sounds good enough to make me want to sit for hours and practice is a Roland CM-30 with an Alesis Nanoverb sitting on top. It's my living room rig and is tabletop size,has multiple inputs and a headphone out as well when silent practice is called for. Best of all they're pretty cheap. The whole rig can be found used for well under $200. on EBay or Reverb.com
