Hello All

I'm after something to beef up my melody side - I'm using a Sansamp Bass driver on the Bass side, which does the job.

Wanting to bring a bit of character to plugging into a keyboard amp or mixing desk.

Preferably pedal/portable rather than rackmount and preferably under 100 GBP/150 USD second hand... Sansamp? Pod? MXR?

XLR out would be a bonus, as would 9V Boss-type power input.

Any and all advice appreciated.

I don't know what you mean by "character", but I am very happy with the TheMMamp. It's available from Richter Electronic Engineering. It is basically just the preamp from the StepAbout minus the Equalizer and the routing matrix.
It is perfect for bringing out the tone of the Stickup.

It looks lovely but their site lists it as a custom job from 2009... and google has never heard of them.

Any idea where I can get one?!

The Ultrasound DI has been a good pre-amp to me, and has XLR and can be powered by phantom, 9v battery, or wall wart. It's only 1 channel (the DI Max version has 2 inputs that it'll mix down to 1 channel so if you're plugging into a mono amp, you may like that). It's also a DI and has some EQ options.

I suggest you contact Andreas Richter directly. It's not a big company behind these products, and I have the impression that his emphasis is on the electronics, not marketing. My dealings with him have been very nice.

I emailed him, and he has one (MMAMP) that is almost ready to go.... and the StepABouts are going to be here by the end o f the month for sure. Email him, and you can have it!. he said he would sell it for 190,000 Euro.... then you have to figure shipping etc.
