A newbie question : when you plug a device such as the Timefactor in the computer or a tabletop recorder to... record your Stick, and you have at the beginning of the chain a nice preamp (the StepABout for me), which ouput switch is it preferable to put on : line level or guitar level? What will sound the best for recordings?
Thanks for your answers to this novice question

Hi Bruno,

It all depends on what gives you the best signal to noise ratio. If you set the input on the TimeFactor to guitar and you are not clipping the input with your signal from the StepABout, you should have a pretty strong signal coming out with the TimeFactor output set to line. If it sounds like you have any clipping, then try setting it to amp, which will be a much lower signal.

Both the StepAbout and TimeFactor are very quiet to begin with.

If you are using an external interface on your computer, then the best choice would be line and running balanced cables to the interface.

Ok, thanks a lot for the tips. Expect some new tunes on Myspace pretty soon.

Agree. I run the bass side of the Stick directly to one input of the Timefactor, and the treble side to the Modfactor in mono, then going to the other input of the Timefactor. It's very flexible set-up thanks to the MIDI capabilities of both boxes, covering all my needs, and it's very very quiet (I never had such a noiseless gear). All I may need at some point is a good overdrive/distortion pedal.

Thanks again.
Bruno

It could deserve its own topic. I'm not interested but it could be an awesome unit : http://www.eventide.com/AudioDivision/Products/StompBoxes/PitchFactor.aspx

It looks like Eventide is taking the Eclipse apart and spreading it out on the floor
at a reasonable price. I think that is a wonderful idea but I have a funny feeling
that if you take all three together it might sound like this:

I really haft to thank you guys for keeping this thread alive even though
I don't have a "Time-Factor" (yet) it inspired me to get my DL-4 out and not
use the looping function :| but instead focus on the delay :geek:
My Stick playing will never be the same :D Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Has Eventide now the same commercial politics as Line 6? (making an effect/box and then making many versions of it with only some very litlle differencies)

I think that Eventide just thinks that a lot of people would like to have their products
but don't want to spend so much money... It's a good thing :)
