Ah, the 'Hands Project' guy!

Steve Lawson (aka SoloBassSteve) provides the background music for the short 'Virtual Gallery' walkthrough video (just a sample - the full Steve Lawson album 'Hands' is 89m long, 7 improv pieces recorded live at the gallery opening).

More hands (including Tony Levin's) at https://hands-project.de/a-gallery-of-hands/

I've only heard Emmett play this live a couple of times. Does anyone have an idea on what the main effects are? I remember it being very interesting: multiple filters, wah, and maybe some sort of reverb? It's been a long time so my memory is fuzzy.

I'm curious if I could mock up an approximation within the Helix universe.

I don't recall which one, but from one of the links above I found what looked like a scan of the original user instructions. I think it was maybe on the site with the repair data? http://stickpatchofshades.blogspot.com/

Maybe MIDI CC from a MIDI controller such as the McMillen SoftStep could act as the 'pressure pad' substitute?

An exprerssion pedal might suffice, but I was guessing that the SoftStep might 'feel' & react more like the original pressure pad? I don't own either a 'Shades' or a 'SoftStep', so I couldn't say for sure.

The way I understand it - having never seen, let alone used one IRL - it has a couple of different wah effects built in. Apart from that, it provides two(?) effects loops where you can patch in any effects you like, and have these blended into the sound when applying pressure to the pad. If I understand it correctly, one loop is with wah (if wah is enabled) and the other is clean.

It is certainly fun to think about how one could replicate the PoS with modern hardware and/or software.

Something that comes to my mind: what would it be like with a slightly larger pressure pad that was sensitive not only to how much pressure is applied, but where the pressure is applied.

Imagine different things happening if you'd rock your foot to the left vs right side of the pad, or bottom vs top.

That's one of the things that made me remember the 'SoftStep', because its buttons/pads are sensitive to X/Y as well as pressure.

I just did a little more Helix digging & sadly, at first glance, it looks like while it can use MIDI CC, that's only for things like selecting patches, etc., not for adjusting patch settings, so I don't think the pressure & X/Y codes from the SoftStep could control an effect in real time in a pedal or knob like fashion. :(

Maybe you know better?
