Post Changing Strings - How Often?
How often do you guys put on new strings? My guess is the answer is: it depends. It depends on how often you play, how oily your hands are when playing...etc.

I've never changed my strings....had one stick over a year, the others less than a year. I can't really notice the tone getting any worse with string age, but if I slap new sets on, then compare the new sound, there may be a difference.

It's hard to notice gradual changes, but you probably will notice if you change strings.

I asked this question not long after getting Stick. Was told by most that they change every 6 months.

Hope this helps.

You have developed string amnesia Mark, and the only prescription is more cowbell....
Seriously, you gotta get those skanky old cables off there dude, and your Stick will sound like the heavens again.
Twice a year for sure, thrice for me personally.......

cheers,
kev

I just changed the Alto strings...sharp little buggers, kept stabbing myself in the fingers by mistake. I'll tackle the Grand tomorrow....then the Railboard

I'm like Kevin; roughly three times a year. I just did it yesterday, in fact. The difference was significant.
I knew it was time to change them because: 1) The intonation was getting a little funky, and 2) Notes on string 1 that I can typically play with ease had gotten difficult to play consistently and cleanly.
I just LOVE hearing the way my instrument sounds when new strings are put on it!

Once a year about. But I have two Stick´s both with Stickup and I play them both equally much so twice a year if I would have one instrument.....

I just changed mine few days ago and I realized how the old one were old...wow...it was difficult to get the right pitch and now it's so pure. I guess it's personal to each one but on my side I would say twice a year. My hands don't sweat...maybe it helps.

I change them about 3-4 times a year. Kind of a pricey affair, but jeez, it feels like a new instrument after cleaning up the instrument, popping in a new 9v (for ACTV-2 players) and a new set of strings.

Check Marty's video on it. It's almost a half hour, but covers every aspect of caring for the instrument. Very informative!

I just changed my strings for the first time in years (though I haven't been playing consistently until maybe the last year and a half). I do play DBR, so that may affect my thoughts on it. The strings did sound "brighter", but it's just a different tone, I'm not sure if I would describe them as sounding "better". I get the feeling I might use my current set for many years to come. ("That's where the funk is at," as the saying goes.)
