I did a search on Stickist and did not find any info about the new version. But it looks STUNNING! Very classy design. Does anyone know if they´ve started to ship them out yet?

All thumbs up. Love how it looks and hope it sounds as good as the old one. And I LOVE the old one!

YES, the StepABout version 2 is in production.

The first few article are on the way, filling back-orders. I'll make an announcement when the next batch is being shipped.

But for now here are some details:

The preamps have the same function and sound, but Andreas has made the components modular for easier construction and servicing.

The tone-bypass function has been eliminated.

The bass and treble controls are on separate pots, which lowers the profile substantially.

The housing is sturdier. Slightly wider, but not as tall.

Battery compartment easier to get to, and only 6 AA instead of 8 AAA batteries needed. The power supply in is still 12 volts, but it runs on 9 volts with batteries.

The tuner out and headphone out are on separate jacks, with the headphone on a mini plug.

The A and B outs are not TRS anymore, just unbalanced TS.

I'm updating all the photos on the SE site right now, and I'll let you know when I'm done.

Nice to see some of those sharp corners softened. This is one thing that gives me serious G.A.S. Sigh...

Post Re: New StepAbout.....
Ordered one and it´s also paid for. BassLab are great to deal with. Very fast. Will be shipped late next week. Will keep my old one in the studio, hooked up and ready to go. And the new one will be in my gig case. Some improvements on the new one when it comes to live gigs. Separate bass/treble knobs. Separated phones/tuner out jacks. And more stream lined design/not as sharp edges. Good changes. The old one still sounds fantastic (!!) tho! Won´t sell it. Just need another one. Good to have as a backup as well.

I´m thinking about building a pedal board for the Stick. The new StepAbout and a bunch of analogue pedals..... Will DEFINITELY include one of my Retrospec Squeezebox:es and use it on the bass side of the Stick. A project that I´ll start messing about with in a couple of weeks. Will post pics when I´m done.

Yeah especially with the Stickup and the PASV4- pup I´d say. The ACT2 is not as critical when it comes to impedance matching/noise/interference etc since it´s a active pup. I´ve tried my old StickAbout with all three pups and with the first two it actually makes a difference when it comes to sound quality. With the ACT2 it´s more just a bloody practical unit with eq/levels/switching. But with the passive pups it improves sound quality is my opinion. Would not want to live without one. The Bass Lab-folks for sure knows what they are doing. It´s a great concept. Greg´s idea from start, eh? Clever guy.

Looks great. Guess I gotta start saving to get it... :)

It would be interesting if it would have phantom power to power the Pasv4 pickups.
