Post MXR M81 Preamp
I'm using a pair of these with my Stickups.
I share amps/Pedalboards with GTR and Bass and I needed an easy/clean way to match levels as well as doing some Pre-FX EQ.
And the footswitch on/off makes it easy when switching instruments.

I generally reduce the Treble and if I do it on my amp, it takes the 'zing' out of my effects.

Anyway...these work great and are quiet and small.
Nice to bring up the gain of my melody side to match my Les Paul.
The sweepable Midrange is very effective.

They also have Direct XLR outputs but I am not using them at the moment.
When you DON'T use the XLR out, there is an internal switch that puts the Pedal into True Bypass mode.
Going to experiment and see if Buffered is better or not.

Here's an article on the preamp:

I think the question of whether buffered or true bypass will better come down to what other pedals follow it in the signal chain.

Yesterday I was recording the melody side with a Dunlop Mini Fuzz Face.
The M81 had a DRASTIC impact on how the FuzzFace responded.
Even with the M81 bypassed, the buffering changed it.

Old-school Fuzz pedals are very impedance dependent.
My old Roger Mayer Fuzz always sounded best on a Les Paul with the Volume knob down to about 7 and you only turned your guitar volume all the way up if you wanted it to overload/go nuts....

There's a manual for it here:

http://www.jimdunlop.com/files/manuals/M81_man_WEB.pdf

It looks like they have a good input impedance for the Stickup (2.2 MegOhm)

My main concern is that the eq points are not very well suited to the melody side of The Stick, too low on all bands. When I asked Andreas to customize the eq points on the StepAbout we picked frequency points that would work well for both sides.

Still. If you like the sound of it, that's what counts!

The Preamp frequencies work well for me but I would LOVE for there to be a selectable Low Freq.

I'm using the Hi (4k) like a Tone knob.
Roll it off and then add a Mid Peak (which is sweepable) to simulate a tone pot.

The Low (40Hz) is crazy low, but it allows you to roll off some of the thump on the melody side.
Especially "bleed" from the Bass side tapping when using Distortion/Fuzz on the Melody side.

I know lots of Stick players are in love with the Full Range of the Stick in solo settings.
But in a Rock/Pop mix scenario, the bite of the Attack has to be controlled or it will jump out of the mix.

Same with the Sub. There is a LOT of Sub information going on down there.
Fun to have that frequency range at your disposal but it has to be used responsibly when there is a drummer and a singer.
