Indeed, that is a beautiful instrument - I always wished they could have had the Railboard 8 have the same Bridge and Nut set up, instead of having that massive gap running down the center [which thankfully I was able to eliminate]

Grace does do tremendous work.

I'm kind of curious if Grace is going to introduce a new variant of the Stickbass, since I believe that's her favorite instrument.

I got one, and I modded it so all the strings are evenly spaced - no gap in the middle.

It's tuned Crafty, and I'm pretty confident it's the only one like it.

Oh, I didn't know that!

I thought that teh SB8 always had even spacing (.410" - 10.41mm), and only the RB had a given string spacing and a larger group spacing (.470" - 11.94mm) which made it not ideal for straight (or DBR) tunings.

Walt, I'm posting a bunch of pictures here of my RB 8, as yes the spacing is way different than the SB 8.

For starters, the RB 8 uses the same railbeam as a RB 10

It also uses I believe the same bridge but the bridge is cut in the middle.

When I took delivery, I was really sad as the gap was way way WAY bigger than I could have ever imagined.

I knew there was going to be gap, but I mean come on... this was way excessive.

So, the different tunings began..............

I liked the tuning with the bass strings on the treble side of the neck, that was way way fun to play, you could really dig into it, but then I realized with the way the frets are machined down, it was not really going to work, I mean - it could, but it still seemed a bit funny.

Then, I had it set up as a 9 string and I seriously considered going all the way, but after looking at the bridge, I got the idea to alter the individual components so I could have the strings exactly where they should have been from the get go.

I did more fine tuning after these pictures were taken, now it is perfect.

The flaps were easy - I removed the screws and the flaps popped into place on their own.

At some point in time I will machine the screw holes into slots, so I can put the screws back in place.

This instrument plays like a dream !!

It is the only one to my knowledge that is set up like this.

I am not sure if Emmett was alive when I finished, but something tells me he would have been ok with what I did since he liked to tinker with instruments as well.

I think if the RB 8 had a string spacing like mine - it would have sold very well.

These mods are amazing! I'm really impressed you managed to get even string spacing without major changes to the Railboard.
