You could perhaps cut away most of the housing and just leave a smaller plate that you could embed into the wood module. You could make an active 2 fairly easily as they are just stock emg pickups that you can buy from emg. What would be also interesting would be to see if you could get a hold of the railboard (passive) emgs and try those.
