My new job will have me travelling a little more. I'd rather practice instead of sitting around watching TV in the hotel at night. So I'm looking for a used 10-string Stick. Stickup is fine. Classic tuning. Something I won't be afraid to travel with--so it can't be a museum piece.

Dave, there was a 1979 Ironwood 10 String on eBay very recently.
They were asking $2,000 but were accepting offers. I called with a cash offer of $700 (all I had at the time, has since gone into fixing my car) and they sounded like they seriously considered it.
When the auction first ended, it seemed to have an $1,100 offer on it, but now it says it sold for $1,900, so I'm not sure what happened there.

Moral? If this very old, no-truss, no-bridge Stick is any indication, anything under $1,500 may be very hard to find. I'll keep my eyes open for you, as my budget is blown until tax season.

With respect to the seller, I always recommend bidding very late in eBay auctions so as not to drive the price up too much.

Thanks for pointing it out. The inlays on that one look like they're at different frets. Is that a standard Stick or a shorter scale version?

it's a standard Stick, but the version without the X-fret. So the scale-length is a little shorter.
