Post be carefull of the Stick in this eBay sale
I've seen this Stick a few times on eBay. I wrote the seller with some questions and basically didn't get any more information than what was in the add. I wasn't interested in the instrument but wanted to see how he would answer my questions.

Here are my concerns.

1. The seller makes a big deal how this was "professionally serviced" yet he could not tell me why all the bridge pieces were lined up neatly in a row.

2. The treble and bass pickups look like they have been swapped. You can see on the treble pickup where the tape that usually is under the lowest bass string on the bass side was removed. The seller couldn't explain that either.

3. I don't know if it is the angle of the picture, but the stereo/mono switch looks broke or missing. I'm not sure.

So this might be a fine instrument, but it has been messed with to some degree. Bid accordingly.

I'm having a dickens of a time trying to make out the serial number. Did you happen to ask the seller what the serial number was?

Looks like either 1821 or 1621 to me. But you're right, there's no mono switch, the pickups are wrong and the bridge is all weird. Get it if you want, but ask for like $300.

I didn't ask for the number and I couldn't be sure of it from the picture. It was months ago when I fist saw this and wrote the guy. It keeps showing up and I finally had to say something when it showed up again.

Beautiful 12-string with PASV-4 for a good price! Let's talk about that one!

Looks fishy. Serial no looks like 1821 tho. And it might be that the mono switch is ok. I had a early EMG PU-Stick some years back and there was some sort of metall "plate" under the switch. The switch itself was rather small and black but I took a pic of it from straight above using a flash and it sort of looked like the pic in the ad. I should ask before bidding tho.... Intonation looks fucked up. That´s for sure. Serial no looks fishy. Does seem like it goes very shallow into the wood. But could also look like that because of the flash. Don´t know.

Found this. Older StickBass with ACT-2 PU. Same mono switch and the serial no is not very easy to read ether. And intonation looks as fucked up as in the eBay ad.... :D :D

Thanks Russell. Looks like this Stick could easily be reworked, readjusted and set up to play like new. Might well need fret dressing tho, just to create a flat and even plane of collective fret tips enabling setup for very low tapping action.

I go to my setup log (all the way back to the beginning) and I see that this padauk Stick with white pearl shell dots (serial #1621) was made in April 2001. It seems that "ctguy30" went out of his way to maladjust it in several ways. The rectangular ferrous metal shim should never be under the thinnest melody strings with the weakest signal. Maybe he thot it was a volume booster but it's a flux diffuser (Emmett from Back to the Future, but I drive a Honda Hybrid).

The inline SlideBlocks at the bridge will guarantee poor intonation but can easily be readjusted for true octaves per string. Considering that some degree of work will be needed to restore #1621 to optimum play and tone, I'd say $2075. is quite high.

Does my love for this thread mean that I am a cynic?

Seriously, the overall response time is amazing.
