Anyone using the NS with MIDI?
Anyone using the NS with MIDI?
If so, how is it mounted? Under the low or high end?
How is the tracking?

Re: Anyone using the NS with MIDI?
Mac,
I know Gary Jibilian is, and I think it is under the high end.
I don't know if it is picking up the 6 highest strings, or just the highest 4.
I asked (on this forum) a while back, which pickup was being used on the NS; stock Roland or Stick Enterprises custom, but never got a good answer.
I never did call SE and find out what the usual setup is.
Maybe someone else knows?
I think Gary is on tour right now. His new DVD is pretty cool, and I think is using some synth on it.

Re: Anyone using the NS with MIDI?
I had an NS/Stick with MIDI, the modified GK-2A involved a custom pickup bar underneath the top 6 strings to deal with the irregular spacing (I think some wood was routed underneath to make room as well). Actually I found this pic from before I traded it:

Lee Just saw Gary last night, the modified GK2 pickup is mounted under the six highest-pitched strings. From the photos I took looks like the NS modification to the pickup widens the gap for the 4th& 5th strings, which is different from a standard Stick setup. . Re: Anyone using the NS with MIDI?
I'm running my midi signal from the Roland GK-2A to GR-20 floor unit. This is my first experience using midi, and I haven't had any problems with it. As far as tracking goes, it really depends on a few factors; 1. Type of patch (fast response, percussive sound with very little decay, or a swelling pad?). 2. How fast you play a particular line using a certain patch. 3. Which string you use to play a fast line. I experience better tacking on the higher stings vs. the lower, but again, this depends on the patch. I also utilize the midi by adding a sound on top of my existing NS/Stick sound, so it's not as obvious if the midi misses a note here and there, since the sound from my NS is always heard, which 'fills-in' the gaps. Overall, I'm really happy with the way my current Roland system is operating, but I have nothing else to compare it to. Just my opinion, and you know what that's like.
