As for the linear inlays....I prefer the dots......I might like the linear better if they were centered instead of being so close to the frets......

As Rob has pointed out on previous threads, the linear markers actually function quite nicely as side markers, as well.
The angle that I play at really has no need for side markers, but if you play less vertically with the instrument in front of you more, then I could see how they could be helpful.
