NS/Stick live videos with Obsequy @ Galaxy Theater
I just played a cool show with a very talented, technical Thrash band, Obsequy, on 5-1-10 at The Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana, CA. We opened for Flotsam & Jetsam, the band that was famous for having Jason Newsted as their bassist, before he joined Metallica. They requested I play the NS on all the songs in their set, which indicates the interest, acceptance, awareness, and appreciation of the latest generation of 'Technical Metal Shredders' (They're all in their late teens). Fans of Cynic and Atheist will certainly here the influence they have on this band, which is totally fine with me. My band back in the day, Present Absence, opened for Atheist in Detroit of '92! The kids think that's sooooooo coooooolllllll!!!
What I really want to share with you is the versatility the NS/Stick has in a Metal band. Though the audio is not that great, and you can't distinguish the tone of the NS competing with the low-end crunch of the two guitars, you can still get an appreciation for the ability to play such fast lines, finger-style, thanks to the ultra-low action. This is the first time I've used the NS in a technical Metal setting. It was a blast!!
