That, the cost of third-party outsourcing (Emmett commented at one point that the neck itself was a huge part of the cost of the instrument), and also possibly not being being able to integrate some SE-centric innovations like the Rails(tm).
Upside being, now we get The Rails(tm), and the new bamboo (and more recently Wenge) necks look gorgeous.
Who knows--maybe we'll start seeing other NS neck wood options down the road at some point. Just conjecture on my part, of course.
