Ash and maple NS/Sticks can now be ordered with colorful penetrating dyes and a new high-gloss lacquer clear-coat finish.

On the maple instruments the finish is mirror smooth, great for solid colors, and on the ash the recessed grain pattern is striking and can be felt through the protective finish.

Because this option is quite labor-intensive, an additional $300 charge applies.

With the recessed grain, is the surface feeling difference naturally because of the wood, or is that a textural thing that SE does to achieve it? I'm debating whether to get one of them, but I don't know how hot I am on the textural look (at least from the photos).

I think it's probably a subtler feel than your are thinking, but I've not touched one, so I can only guess. The ash has really pronounced grain to it, and the color of it is enhanced with different buffing compounds (hence the white highlights in the turquoise and the golden orange sunburst).

I would contact them directly for a more authoritative response though.

Just e-mailed Cambria about the golden orange NS/Stick. Hope it´s still around. I missed the Koa NS/Stick some months back with a couple of hours. Need a new PASV-4 PU for my old 10-string Stick as well. The old PU is behaving in a very naughty way.
