You know, that's what I always thought it was, but looking up Mayan stuff, it came up a lot, so I thought I must have been wrong.
I was thinking this was the Tzolk'in (Mayan calendar), but I guess it's the Aztek sun stone, which was adapted from it.
Thanks for prompting me to look further into it.
Still a fun image to associate with the serial, since my point was how silly people get over things like that date. :)

Well, she arrived today!
Already put the first few hours into her and WOW what an instrument!!
Full-on two-handed tapping in both registers will take some time and practice, but playing with a combination of traditional bass and two-handed bass tapping styles is really rewarding!
She makes a much broader assortment of tones than I expected, and makes slapping and popping MUCH easier than a regular bass (at least for me).
I wondered how long it would be before I'd be comfortable playing her out of my private studio, but I'll tell you what, I think if I had a bass gig this weekend I'd already be ready to debut her!

THANKS A MILLION to Emmett, Cambria and the gang for ALL their help, they've been wonderful! I love the little message Emmett dremel'ed into her for me before she shipped, and I just couldn't be happier with the instrument.

Michael,

What message did Emmett dremel into it?

Can you share a picture of it?

How would you say it compares to regular eight stringed guitars? I think the guitars suffer sound-wise down at the lowest strings and my guess is that this is because of the thick strings related the shorter scale. The NS has a longer scale so I'm imagining it might sound better down there and the NS also lets you treat the four lower strings differently. Strange that no one of the manufacturers of eight stringed guitars has picked up this excellent idea.

I have played both the NS as well as a few other 8 string electrics (Agile, Ibanez). The NS string spacing was the first thing I noticed. Also, you mentioned the scale length. Since the NS is 34" and the others 27", it sounds and feels more like a real bass guitar. Having the retractable damper on the NS is also convenient, although is would be cool if you could dampen individual strings.

The NS with it's Switchable stereo/mono ouptput for two groups of four strings or one group of eight is Awesome!

Enjoy your NS and your musical journey.

Michael,

That is so awesome!
Emmett is involved in the build of every Stick that comes out of SE and I think of that every time I look at or touch my stick. My NS doesn't have an inscription so I think your's is extra special.

Thanks for sharing.
