Just curious what everyone is using to clean their NS,and or stick . There are sooooo many products out there that claim to be the best. What works for you??? What's your opinion on products like Fingerease and Fast fret??? I think Gary Jibilian uses Fast fret on his NS.

I don't really do much cleaning...
When I change the strings I give it a good wipe down.

I do have a can of FingerEase but in the last 6 months maybe used it twice...

I don't have very sweaty hands and have only been playing at home so it doesn't get too dirty...

When I first started I was using Fast Fret, but stopped because I found that it gummed up my strings and actually seemed to get them dirtier. I haven't used that stuff in well over a year and I like it a lot better without it.
Cleaning: I dust frequently, and when I change strings, I use a very light amount of lemon oil fretboard cleaner. It doesn't seem to have harmed the finish on my Ironwood Stick, although one of these days I'm going to buy some of that Danish oil that Emmett uses when he finishes instruments.

Thanks guys. Youtube is flooded with videos about how to clean your guitar, and what to use.If you took everyones advice, you'd spend a small fortune just testing each one. Thanks again.

Just remember that Danish oil is a chemical finish, not an "oil" in the way that you would put raw linseed or mineral oil on a guitar's finger board. It's a"boiled" oil as they call it. It raises the molecular weight of the oil (I think they use linseed). It polymerizes faster and harder than other oils because of its addition of driers and other chemicals. So probably not necessary unless you're wearing through the finish. (My university studies are in polymeric materials)
I haven't had my Stick long enough where it would accumulate any real dirt, and my hands aren't very sweaty, so like Luc said I just give it a good dusting with a clean rag. If your Stick is bamboo or some non wood material, it will probably be safe with a bit of simple green cleaner sprayed on the rag and wiped down if it's particularly dirty. I'd be a little more careful on an open pored wood.

I use Pledge on the back. I dont really clean the fretboard though til I change strings. I would never ever put that fastfret stuff, or any other product on my Stick, or any other instrument for that matter. It's a contaminant. Just my humble opinion.

cheers,

Ack! Kev say it ain't so!! Pledge is full of wax and other nasty stuff that will build up on the instrument.

I also agree on the fast fret, dirt magnet.

I usually just wipe the fretboard down with a soft linen cloth after I've finished playing to get the hand oils off, and do the 'fingernail string scrape'. To get the dust/crap off the bridge/pickups and head, a quick blast with canned air does the trick.

I just changed my strings and noticed that the difference in sound was much more dramatic than the last times I changed string. I wonder if this is because of the Finger Ease I used a couple times?
I've only been playing since November 2012 and changed the strings only a few times but I did observe the difference this time. I will stay off the Fingerease for now and see if there is the same dramatic difference the next time I change strings. (I've been changing strings about every 4 to 6 months)

I noticed the same kind of difference when I was using Fast Fret, and the difference got bigger (and the string life got shorter) the longer I used it. So as I said earlier, I stopped using it. Yes, the noise of my fingers sliding over the round wound strings might be a little louder, but my strings sound better and feel cleaner for so much longer.
