NS question ... My band plays tuned a half step down. E is Eb, A is Ab, etc. I don't have a problem detuning my 10 string Stick however the NS has those new side saddle bridge screws. Has anyone tried tuning down their NS Stick and playing. Has anyone had an issue with the Strings sliding down the side saddle screws?

I have yet to try detuning. I pick up a 6 when I have to use a drop D tuning on occasion. I prefer not to though, it's a hassle. However, if there was a hipshot d tuner for the E string, it would be used for everything. |

There's quite a good angle on the side-saddle screws, and plenty of tension to hold the strings in place. I think this bridge concept is one of the coolest things about the instrument. |

Thanks Greg and Bill for the replys. And Greg that's great news about the bridge ... the side saddle screws were really my only concern!  The other questions I've asked have been more for information then any kind of real concern.

The saddle is actually a threaded screw with a wider diameter below. If you did pop it, the string isn't going very far. The screw also has some give to it. In order to pop it you need some serious downward force that really could only happen with the 1st four thinnest strings. The first four have the most clearance between the bridge and the pickup, with the last four you would have to overcome the force of the string hitting the pickup to get it to pop. I tune mine BEADGBEA similar to a guitar, if you are doing the straight fourth's thing, then you have nothing to worry about detuning a halfstep. (I'm way below a halfstep on a couple from the original tuning) |

(I'm way below a halfstep on a couple from the original tuning) I ordered it tuned in straight 4ths. I play 6 string guitar too but i thought for two hand tapping reasons I'd be better off keeping the relationship with the melody strings similar to the melody strings on my 10 string Stick. And I expect I'll be two hand tapping most of the time when I use the melody strings so I guess i should be OK in regard to string stability. It's comforting to see that people really haven't had an issue with this. |
