NS/Stick GK-3 Install - Russell Keating
In my NS/Stick review write up I mentioned that the GK-3 install was "a story for another article". Here is that article. http://home.comcast.net/~rwkeating/stick/articles/NSGK-3/Index.html

Tell us a bit more later about the "trigger", the tones, etc. Maybe a soundcloud file...Can't wait to hear it.

Re: NS/Stick GK-3 Install - Russell Keating
As far as triggering, here is what I wrote in my review of the NS/Stick. ---------------START My Stick has a GK-2, my NS/Stick has a GK-3. I have read that the GK-3 provides a hotter signal. That can be a mixed blessing. A hotter signal means a better input to your synthesizer, but it also means that stray string noise can more easily trigger an unwanted note.
I believe the NS/Stick tracks better due to having a strong signal (acoustically) from the strings due to; 1) it taking a bit more energy (tapping) to make them sound, 2) the strings are a heavier gauge, 3) with the strings further apart it is easier to tap a bit harder and you don’t bump adjacent strings, and 4) any guitar/bass right hand technique will put more energy into the string making it easier for the GK to “hear” it -----------------END
As far as sounds, I just have a very old GR-30. I am sure you have heard plenty of sounds from it. The newer ones have better sounds and may trigger better.
My preference with synthesized sounds is to mix them with the regular Stick sounds. I don't have any NS recording, but here are two videos where I used the GR-30 with The Stick.

Re: NS/Stick GK-3 Install - Russell Keating
That's a good write up Russell. SE installed a GK3 on my NS before I took delivery a couple of weeks ago. Again, Emmett wanted to install it on the rear, but I need access to the controls so it ended up in the same position as yours although at a different angle. It may not be as tidy as a GK2a but it's still the best place for it imho. Tracking with my Axon ax100 is as good as could be expected. I'm very pleased with the whole instrument, and that's an English "very pleased!"
Cheers,

I can see what you're looking for Russell in these 2 videos. And your music is really interesting...love it. I like originals. I'm not a cover music fan...so...

Nik,
Could you post a picture of how your GK-3 is installed? I am curios about the "official" position on front.
I'd also like to see pictures of the GK-3 rear installation. I may start a separate thread to see if I can find any of those shots.

Attachment: NS_GK3 (2) (1024x768).jpg Emmett wanted to install the GK3a wart on the rear of the body. I explained that I need access to the controls and couldn't imagine it being usable with the wart on the rear. So he suggested a position which is pretty much the same as I have seen pictures of GK2a warts on NS/Sticks. The angle is different to yours, Russell, as there is no spacer to bring the wart up level with the bridge plate. But I'm happy with it as is despite it overhanging the edge of the body a few mm.
